International Conference on Invisual Art: Doxa and Paradox
The book The Aesthetics of Invisual Art, published in October 2021, encountered hostility and stubbornness from the public. Some readers fixated on the cover and the seemingly oxymoronic title, refusing to engage further with this emerging art form through the proposed reading. Others questioned the legitimacy of Invisual Art, analyzing it through the lens of 20th-century perspectives.
Conditioned by what has been officially recorded in the history of art, by all those movements already institutionalized and accepted as unshakable references, the public preferred to challenge the concept of Invisual rather than consider it.
« Doxa » is defined by the dictionary as « a set of opinions accepted without discussion within a given civilization, » and it maintains an antinomic relationship with the term « paradox, » whose Greek etymology refers to a word composed of « para » (against) and « doxa » (common opinion).
Thus, this conference invites Invisual artists, art historians, and researchers to speak out, dissecting Invisual Art and addressing the critiques and controversies sparked by The Aesthetics of Invisual Art.
To better illustrate the universe crystallized between doxa and paradox, we have chosen the concept of duality, borrowed from physics—a concept that brings together two opposing theories and attests to the dual nature of reality.
The event is organized by Corina Chutaux Mila, lecturer and researcher at the Sorbonne University and author of the book The Aesthetics of Invisuel Art, in partnership with the Paris Biennale.
