Art as a Process of Social Singularization

For its fourth Rendez-vous at the Paris City Hall, the Paris Biennale, in partnership with IRISA, is organizing a public event focused on the concept of « singularity in art ».

The event will take place on April 22, 2021, at 6:00 PM in the Xavier Lacoste Room at the Paris City Hall, and it aims to explore singularity as a key issue for 21st-century society.

In the context of contemporary society, we are compelled to envision the future independently of the systems that were supposed to ensure the development of humanity, taking into account the integration of differences.

It is urgent to develop a discourse that allows us to break free from dominant thought patterns and to affirm singularity as the ultimate recourse, to escape the individualism responsible for the homogenization of human beings.

By proposing to reflect on the recognition of singularities already operating within systems, IRISA is initiating a public gathering with the ambition of connecting societal issues with the transformative dynamics at work in artistic practices.

Approached through the lens of singularity and in relation to other research disciplines, art emerges as the ideal framework for freely experimenting with new models of thought and action, which could serve as prototypes for the society of tomorrow.

IRISA, along with the Paris Biennale and their international partners, aims to establish singularity as a crucial issue across all disciplines in order to rethink society—a sine qua non condition for its survival and evolution.
